Kick Drum Mic Stand
There are two basic functions of a kick drum mic stand which include preventing the vibrations coming from the drum penetrating into microphone and secondly keeping the microphone in such a still position that it can catch the sound much more clearly and much more accurately. Kick drum mic stand is very simple and easy to understand and not at all complicated. The idea behind kick drum mic stand is all very well known.
Separating Microphone :
This deals with the motions and countermotion stuff. When high volume and quality sounds are coming from different instruments like the bass guitar, kick drum mic stand itself, object that is used to ride the drum, huge amounts of vibration passes through different mediums like the floor, air etc.
Sounds that are commencing drumming instrument along with sounds coming via another medium as well, like guitar’s etc, these sounds combine together and always a few frequency has to be joined inevitably and become a lot louder than the single sound. There will also be some other sounds as well, that will combine and mix up in such a way that they will go away from the route and will always inevitably abandon one another.
Whenever different sounds combine in such a way to either combine or cancel each other, there will always inevitably be a sound generated that will be different from the original sound that is coming from the original source.
The head separation projection is formed by really great thickness open acoustic foam and it is as much as 2″ thick. It is really thick due to which the vibrations are transmitted like they were an opaque material. If it is really thin, then the frequencies will not be controlled properly and will be jumping all over the space. If it is really soft or really broad, plunk will not be able to gain its steadiness properly. Therefore it is really important and really vital for us to find the right balance.
Alleviating the Microphone :
Here every thing gets really exciting. All the vibrations and audio frequencies get different wavelength. Here, if the microphone is allowed to vibrate backward and forward, this will create little Doppler effect because the microphone has moved at a distance from the origin of the sound. Due to the distance the frequency of the sound will also be low, due to which there will be a change in the minute phase.
This is why you will and can only get a clearer and sharper picture of the original things and the original sound if the microphone is held in a stable position, even when other objects that are near to the things that are around are shaking due to the vibrations. This is the way drum works and gains clarity and originality.
All the shock is absorbed by the heavy steel plate. The microphone boom and the microphone itself are held by this steel plate, so that the clarity can be achieved. A combination of both these gives the real picture and this is what makes the Kick Stand really must for the engineers to have.
